Disney finally decided to give its cult classic science fiction film Tron a sequel in 2010, nearly 30 years after the original was released. Tron: Legacy was a modest financial hit that went over well with fans, and talks of a third film were underway, but nothing ever came of them, with Disney canceling the film in 2015.

What caused Disney to change its mind in regards to the franchise? From the other live-action Disney films that were struggling to the merchandise that just didn’t sell enough, let’s take a look at the details of why Disney gave up on Tron.
